Here are settings to improve the function of your XV6700 Verizon phone. These are recommendations and not requirements. These settings could do damage to your phone, so proceed with care.

Configuration

  1. Install Active Sync 4.2 on your Windows PC.
    1. Get the Latest version from Microsoft's website.

  2. Upgrade Phone OS.
    1. Download new OS software from utstar.com.
      1. Select the xv6700 and download the Verizon Application and Doc version.
      2. If the site is down, here is a copy of the latest version apac_vzw_20720_200_11000_ship.exe and Documentation.
    2. Follow the documentation for upgrading the software.

  3. Install the Flash player.
    1. Run the program and it will auto install and sync to your phone.

  4. Install the Regedit 0.70 program.
    1. Get the latest version from author's website.
    2. Drag and drop the file to the phone via the Sync Explorer.
    3. Use Programs/File Explorer to find the file on the phone.
    4. Click on the file and it will auto install.

  5. Install Magic Button 2.0 task manager.
    1. Get the latest version from the author's website.
    2. Run the program and it will auto install and sync to your phone.
    3. Recommended settings, hold down on the "house" icon on the task bar.
    4. Pick Settings.
    5. Choose "Auto Start", "Battery Status" and "Show Clock and 3 Icons"

  6. Install E-ten phone dialer.
    1. Drag and drop the file to the phone via the Sync Explorer.
    2. Use Programs/File Explorer to find the file on the phone.
    3. Click on the file and it will auto install.
    4. You will be prompted to reboot the phone.
    5. See Skins for more skins.

  7. Setup Outlook email.
    1. Open Programs, and ActiveSync.
    2. Select Menu and Configure Server.
    3. Enter "webmail.copart.com" and select "requires SSL". Click Next.
    4. Enter your username and password. Click Next.
    5. Select what items you wish to sync from Exchange.
    6. Click Finish.
    7. You may wish to set the sync schedule in Menu -> Schedule.

  8. Stop annoying text messeging notifications.
    1. Edit your registery with PHM RegEdit under Programs.
    2. Edit or add the following:
    3. Change: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\OEM\SMS\Delivery Ack from 1 to 0.
    4. HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Inbox\Settings\SMSDeliveryNotify = 0 (DWORD decimal)
    5. HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Inbox\Settings\SMSNoSentMsg = 1 (DWORD decimal)
    6. HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Inbox\Settings\SMSDeliveryNotify = 0 (DWORD decimal)
    7. You may have to reset the phone.

  9. Setup Internet browsing.
    1. Start -> Settings -> Connections tab -> Connections
    2. Add new Modem connection.
    3. Number to dial #777
    4. Username: your phone number + @vzw3g.com
    5. Password: vzw
    6. no domain.

  10. Enable USB laptop Internet browsing.
    1. Browse on the phone to the \windows\ directory from your PC.
      1. Copy the wmodem.exe file from the phone to your computer.
    2. Run command 'attrib -r -h -s wmodem.exe' on your computer in the directory that the wmodem.exe file is in.
    3. Copy the file back to the phone in a different directory.
      1. Right click on the wmodem.exe and select "Copy".
      2. Navigate to \Windows\Start Menu\Programs\.
      3. Tap inside the folder and select "Paste Shortcut". This will paste your new shortcut as "Shortcut to WModem.exe".
      4. Right click and select "Rename". Rename the shortcut to "Wireless Modem".
    4. Disconnect the USB cable.
    5. Run the "Wireless Modem" command from the phone's Start -> Programs.
      1. Select 'USB' and 'Start'.
    6. Connect the phone with the USB cable to the computer.
      1. Windows will detect a new device.
      2. Windows will ask for drivers, select to install manually and select the inf file.
    7. Create a dialup connection.
      1. Go to Network Connections on your PC and "New connection Wizard".
      2. Select "Connect to the Internet".
      3. Select "Setup connection manually".
      4. Select "Connect using dial-up modem".
      5. Enter "Verzion Phone".
      6. Phone number "#777".
      7. Username "phonenumber@vzw3g.com".
      8. Password "vzw".
    8. Run the new dial up connection and it will connect your PC to the Internet via USB cable to the phone.
    9. Active sync will not work while using the tethering. Stop the wmodem program and Active sync will re-connect. You may have to unplug the USB cable and reconnect it.

  11. Enable NTP.
    1. Click the wireless icon on bottom right of screen.
    2. Settings -> Phone Settings.
    3. Services tab.
    4. Time Synchronization -> Get Settings.
    5. Check the box and click Update Now.

  12. Fix the stylus pen.
    1. The stylus pen falls out easily from the phone. To fix this, bend the metal part of the pen very slightly with your fingers. This will hold it more snug in the phone.
